It's a past time enjoyed by all ages and genders and comes in a wide variety of genres and types: it's video games, and they're celebrated by today's unofficial holiday.

Video games became popular in the 1970s with Pong, the Atari 2600 and arcade games. The popularity exploded in the 1980s after the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System and through each generation of games, they have become more advanced in graphics, gameplay, sound, controls and more.

Video games can let you play in adventures, participate in professional sports, drive high-speed race cars, fight evil villains and much more.
Modern day phones and tablets can also play a variety of games in addition to computers and dedicated video game consoles.
