It's a holiday to pay tribute to the furry friends who purr, chase mice, and love boxes—the cat!
National Cat Day was founded in 2005 by animal and wildlife advocate Colleen Paige. She hoped to draw attention to the number of cats that need new homes and to show the benefits of cats as pets.
According to the holiday's website, “The goal of National Cat Day is to facilitate the adoption of 10,000 shelter cats nationwide on October 29th.”
