Tropical Storm Chantal A Little Stronger, Closing on Barbados

Tropical Storm Chantal has become a little bit stronger as it bears down on the island nation of Barbados.

As of 12:30am Central Time, Tropical Storm Chantal was a mid-range Tropical Storm with sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. Those winds extended 90 miles from the center of the storm.

It was moving to the west/northwest at a speedy 26 miles per hour, approaching Barbados.

Tropical Storm Warnings are currently in effect for Barbados, Dominica, St. Lucia, Martinique, Guadelope, Puerto Rico and the southern coasts of the Dominican Republic.

Tropical Storm Watches are also in effect for Haiti, St. Vincent, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Vieques and Culebra.

Forecasters with the National hurricane Center expect Chantal’s current track to continue for the next couple of days.

It could produce dangerous storm surges and flooding rains, along with high winds, in the countries under the previously mentioned watches and warnings.
