The original Mario Brothers games were and are considered classics of gaming, and on this day in history, a collection of those games was released.

Super Mario All-Stars was released on August 1, 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game included enhanced versions of Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 2, and Super Mario Brothers 3. These enhancements included a save feature, improved graphics and bug fixes.

All-Stars also marked the first time that Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels was released outside of Japan. This direct sequel to the first Mario game was originally considered too difficult for American players, as well as being too similar to the first.

Super Mario All-Stars was later released as a disc version, with an additional soundtrack album, for the Nintendo Wii in 2010.
