A big-budget remake of a 1960s science fiction television series made its debut on this day in movie history.

On April 3rd, 1998, Lost in Space was released in theaters in the United States. This was a remake of the science fiction series that aired in the 1960s.

The film followed the Robinson family as a sabotage attempt leaves them, and the sinister Dr Smith, stranded far from Earth.

The movie starred Gary Oldman, Matt LeBlanc and Heather Graham. It was a success at the box office, making nearly 140 million dollars on an 80 million dollar budget.
