On this day in history in 1993, what would go onto be an animated series popular with both children and adults premiered on Fox Kids.

After the success of Tiny Toon Adventures, another animated series backed by Steven Spielberg debuted in 1993 on the successful Fox Kids lineup.
Animaniacs featured a variety of slapstick-heavy, pop-culture-reference-infused shorts such as Warner Brothers (and their sister Dot), Pinky & The Brain, Minevra Mink, Mister Skullhead and more.

The animated series combined that slapstick and references to appeal to a wide demographic, and the animated series was a huge hit.

It lasted 99 episodes through Fox Kids and Kids WB and even had an animated movie called Wakko's Wish. It also spawned a pair of spin-offs: Pinky & The Brain and Pinky, Elmyra and The Brain.
