A team of high school inventors in Wisconsin may be on to something big—a snow tackling robot.

Winter is right around the corner.

And that means snow.

With that in mind -- a group of students at Wausau West High School are trying to make winter in Wisconsin a little easier.

A snow shoveling robot is almost finished.

It's taken more than a year of planning and building.

Local businesses donated parts.

Their teacher -- Theran Peterson -- helped the students create the prototype and connect with businesses.

He says students are getting hands on experience and making connections.

Peterson entered the shovel into a worldwide grant contest, sponsored by M.I.T. to help fund the project.

The students made it to the finals.

Earlier this month -- they found out that they're one of fifteen winners.
The prize is ten thousand dollars.

Now , they work to finish up this yearlong effort.

Excited that soon -- they might not be the ones shoveling snow.

The students will present the project to their school when it's finished.
Then -- next June -- they plan to travel to M.I.T. to show it off.
