A Russian Soyuz capsule carrying three astronauts has successfully docked with the International Space Station.
American astronaut Michael Hopkins and two Russian colleagues traveled six hours in the capsule from a launch pad in Kazakhstan before linking up with the space station's Russian research module early today, to join the three-person crew already there.
The incoming crew's mission will last six months.
Russians Oleg Kotov and Sergei Ryazansky will have the honor of taking an unlit Olympic torch into open space as part of the relay of the Olympic flame ahead of the Winter Games being held in Russia's Sochi in February.
The torch will arrive at the station in November with the next mission.
