South Bend Snow:
Rain showers will transition to snow showers on today as temperatures in the 40s begin to dip into the 30s by the afternoon.
On Monday night, a lake effect snow band will produce heavy snow squalls, mainly west of US-31.
Several inches will accumulate in communities that are under the snow band for several hours.
Outside of the lake effect snow, temperatures will be cool. Highs will be in the middle 30s mid-week, and lows will be in the upper teens to low 20s.
A cold front is moving through Central Indiana Monday evening and authorities are asking motorists to exercise caution. The main hazard with this wintry mix and snow is slick roads.
Snow accumulations will range from half an inch to one inch.
The Indiana Department of Transportation is focusing attention on what is likely to be the first statewide winter weather event of the season, and is asking drivers to do the same.
Drivers can plan ahead to safely reach their destinations by staying updated on the latest weather and road conditions.
