The Thousand camel race was held in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Saturday, winning a Guinness World Record.

A total of 1,118 camels participated in the event and finished the full course of 5,000 meters.

"Thousand camel race wins a Guinness World Record for the largest number of camels, 1,118. It was held on Oct 19, 2013 in Halha Huoying area, Chigam Kyidie Township," declared Nie Jingchuan, Director of the Shanghai Great World Guinness Headquarters.

The splendid scene attracted many spectators who were pleased to enjoy a leisurely and carefree atmosphere.

"I came from Urumqi especially for this event. I was shocked to see such a race," said a spectator.
