Residents in the south and southeast of England were struggling with more flooding on Sunday, as the recent rain worked its way down tributaries to the main river systems.

Shepperton, in the southeastern county of Surrey, England, was one of the worst hit areas.

Homes, roads and large swathes of countryside there were under water.

In a bid to prevent further damage, local government workers on Sunday kept preparing sandbags for people who thought their property might be in danger of flooding.

Water levels were expected to fall over the next two days, but more rain was forecast for Wednesday.

The British Environment Agency had 66 flood warnings in place across England and Wales on Sunday, and 107 flood alerts.

A flood warning means that flooding of property is expected and that people should take action to prepare.

A flood alert means flooding is possible.
