Starfleet Captains, sentient mermaids, magical ponies and talking planes are teaming up on store shelves across America on DVD and Blu-Ray this week.

These are some of the notable releases for November 12th, 2013 in Region 1 (North America) coming to retail on Blu-Ray and/or DVD:

Planes (G, Disney, DVD & Blu-Ray) - Set in the same universe as the mega-popular Disney/Pixar Cars, Planes follows the adventure of Dusty, a crop-dusting plane with the hope of becoming one of the fastest in the world and competing in a race. Featuring the voices of Dane Cook, Terry Hatcher and John Cleese, Planes is the latest computer-generated film from Disney.

The Little Mermaid II and Ariel's Beginning: 2-Movie Collection (G, Disney, DVD & Blu-Ray) - A prequel and a sequel to the 1989 smash-hit from Disney, The Little Mermaid, these two films are together in one set on both major home video formats. Mermaid II deals with Ariel's daughter, while Ariel's Beginning involves the banning of music from the underwater kingdom.

Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season 5 (Paramount/CBS Home Entertainment, Blu-Ray Only) - The fifth season of the first spinoff to the iconic sci-fi series continues the remastered treatment on high-definition Blu-Ray. Remastered picture and sound are available for 26 episodes, including "Cause and Effect"--where the crew is seemingly trapped in an endless time loop and "Conundrum," where the crew seems to have suffered from amnesia. New bonus features include an all-new gag reel and feature on the music of the show.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - A Pony for Every Season (Shout! Factory, DVD Only) - This single-disk release of the popular animated series contains six episodes of the series, including four from season three--which has not yet been released with a full season set. These include "Too Many Pinkie Pies," where clones of the titular character are released on Ponyville and "Apple Family Reunion," which is as the title advertises.
