Brazilians Celebrate Opening World Cup Win (APTN)

Brazilians across the country celebrated their team's victory over Croatia in the opening match of the FIFA World Cup on Thursday.

Brazil won with a 3 -1 final score.

In the Santa Marta favela in Rio de Janeiro, ecstatic fans whooped, cheered and danced as the final whistle blew.


Croatians React to World Cup Loss (APTN)

Croatian football fans gathered in one of the best preserved 1st century Roman amphitheaters on Thursday to watch their team play Brazil in the opening match of the 2014 World Cup.

The historic venue in Pula was kitted out with huge TV screens to enable thousands of supporters to cheer on their side.

It got off to a good start, with Croatia taking a 1 nil lead in the opening minutes of the game, but it didn't take long for Brazil to bounce back.


Space Station Crew Gets Into World Cup Spirit (APTN)

The three crew members currently on board the International Space Station joined in the World Cup excitement on Wednesday.

Americans Steve Swanson and Reid Wiseman and German Alexander Gerst kicked around a soccer ball in zero gravity, ahead of the opening of the tournament on Thursday.

The three say they'll be cheering on their teams from 230 miles above the earth.


Tigers in Thailand Get Into World Cup Spirit (MCOT)

Four tigers at Chiang Mai Night Safari exposed their playfulness with footballs as the zoo holds activities to welcome the FIFA World Cup 2014.

The four young white tigers and Bengal tigers named Ronaldo, August, Kampaeng and Pruchji looked extremely thrilled playing together with their keepers in referee shirts.

Some of them climbed up trees and pounced on national flags of the national teams in the World Cup out of curiosity.
