Visual Concepts Entertainment has released the latest version of its popular basketball video game: NBA 2K14.

The Novato, California-based company held a game launch event for the media in San Francisco Wednesday.

The game was designed for the newest versions of the XBox and PlayStation video game consoles that feature more powerful graphics and interactivity.

To bring NBA players to life, the video game designers "scanned" each player's face, taking numerous photos from different angles and using them to create their 3D images of them with various facial expressions.

"When the players look like robots moving up and down, you don't feel the same way you feel when someone gets done with a monster dunk and comes up screaming and yelling," says Visual Concepts Entertainment Vice President Jeff Thomas, "And it looks just like the guy doing it. It just further further pulls you into the experience."

The engineers used a series of cameras to capture players.

"We have a very complex camera system that goes out and takes many different photos and angles of photos of each NBA player that we captured," Thomas says.

Journalists got to try the game at the event, dunking like Lebron and dribbling like Kobe.
