Over the weekend of June 22nd, 2013, a fan group of the latest animated incarnation of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic raised thousands for a pair of causes.
Bronies for Good, which News 4 has reported on the past, held a live stream event called “Kallisti III.” Over a 24 hour period, fans were able to receive art requests based on the show and even ask questions for voice actors and writers from the animated series, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. This even included talent from the foreign dubs of the show.
Throughout the weekend, nearly €1880 was raised, which translates to nearly $2,500 US dollars. Half of that money will go to funding a rainwater harvesting tank in the African nation of Tanzania, which will help bring clean, uncontaminated rainwater to residents in that area. As of Thursday, June 27th, 2013, the group was just 2% shy of its goal for the tanks.
The other half will go towards funding the GalaCon 2013 fan convention, which will take place in Germany in August. This follows in the footsteps (or hoofsteps) of the many fan conventions celebrating the series that have taken place over the last two years.
