The two comic book series based on the hit animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic continues to sell well.
IDW Publishing’s My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series continues to see sale figures in the tens of thousands. Issue #7 of the main series outsold new number one issues of comics such as Adventures of Superman in addition to other installments of established franchises like X-Men and Justice League. It was also IDW Publishing’s top-selling comic of the month of May 2013. In all, it sold just over 32,100 issues.
The spin-off “micro series” also continued to sell as well, with issue #4 selling nearly 22,500 issues. It beat issues of comics such as Venom, Iron Man, and X-Factor.
The comics have seen strong support from the target demographic and Bronies—teenage and adult fans of Friendship is Magic. Artists and writers from the comic series have appeared in several Pony conventions and have been interviewed by fan websites as well.
Neither series looks to be stopping any time soon either, with future issues in both series already planned, as well as trade paperback collections combining several previously published issues.
