Superheroes might be the characters most associated with modern comic books, but a group of colorful mares, fillies, and stallions have drawn readers to purchase over a million comics of a new series.

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, an animated series that debuted on the Hub Network in 2010, has been a smash hit with young girls as well as a passionate group of teenage and adult fans. The series fourth season is set to premiere in November, but a comic book series began in November 2012 with over 100 thousand pre-orders for the first issue.

Now, in less than a year, the comic series has sold over one million copies. IDW Publishing announced this milestone on Wednesday.

The comic company also announced that they would be publishing twelve special collector’s copies of the series 12th issue to be given to charity auctions and contests.

The comic series is also set to continue, with issue 12 releasing to retail later in October.
