A fashion show was held to attract more passengers to Japan's oldest subway line.

The Midousuji Line in Osaka began in 1933. It carries passengers to the city's central district. But ridership has been decreasing.

The Osaka Municipal Transportation Bureau hosted the show to increase interest and passenger numbers.

18 models strolled up and down the aisle catwalk, wearing the latest yukata summer kimono and swimsuits. 80 spectators won tickets through a lottery, among 1200 applicants.

As the train traveled along the tracks, models posed while grabbing onto the hand straps.

One spectator said she never imagined a train car could have such a different atmosphere.

Another said the models were very close to her and looked cute.

Kenji Shimizu, head of the planning team, said the event was a success and unique in the world. He said he was glad the bureau could offer the event.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Osaka municipal transit system.
