IL College Sophomore Builds Homemade Lightsaber

GOODFIELD - A Central Illinois man has built something close to a "real life" light saber.

College sophomore Drake Anthony said says he strengthened the laser chip from a T.V. projector. The beam is so powerful it can burn through paper and wood. It's about 600 times more powerful than a regular laser pointer.

While he won't sell any of them, Anthony said building lasers is a hobby he's had since he was 10-years-old.

"I failed my first time, but after a few tries I actually was able to build a burning laser from a DVD burner. So from there on I've just been building lasers and making YouTube videos about it," Anthony said.

Anthony's videos have been getting a lot of attention lately, with more than 1.5-million views on YouTube.
