NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has revealed the largest known group of star clusters, nearly a thousand times the size of the Milky Way.

The image, taken in 2010 by the telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys, depicts an estimated 160,000 clusters swarming in a group of galaxies known as Abell 1689.

Researchers can use the data to trace dark matter, the scaffolding around which stars and galaxies were assembled billions of years ago.
