Houston Co. Sheriff Andy Hughes Discusses His Resignation

Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes announced his resignation Wednesday.

He will take the position of assistant director for Homeland Security with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Hughes has spent more than two decades working in law enforcement in Houston County. He began as a dispatcher for Houston County when he was 18 and continued as a deputy until 1990.

Then he became a Dothan Police Officer where he worked his way up to sergeant.

In 2006 Hughes ran for Sheriff and won.

His last day is August 17.
