Whether it's Japanese manga or US comic books, they're all on show here at the first ever Bangkok Comic Con event in Thailand.

The first fully-fledged Comic Con event was held in San Diego back in 1970, but now the bash has grown into a worldwide phenomena with events around the globe.

Many cosplay competitors here are dressed as their favourite fantasy characters in the hope of winning a top prize of $1,846 USD at the cosplay contest.

"Today, I've dressed up as a zombie. I choose to dress like a zombie because I want to scare children," says show attendee, Petchtawan Sretavimala, from Bangkok.

This three-day comic book extravanganza features screenings, sneak-peeks and panel discussions.

It also brings together fantasy characters and superheroes from all over the world.

Show attendee Jenna Cymansky is from New York, she says this is quite different from other comic book events she's attended in the past.

"I went to one in New York City a few years ago, but it was very different from this," she says.

"It was more kind of about the actual comic books, and how they are made. While this one is kind of seems a bit more about everything that's going on, and the characters. And actually, you know like, being involved in promotional of the stuff so."

For many of the attendees here, it's a chance to meet like-minded people and share similar interests.

"Bangkok's Comic Con has opened the world (for us)," says show attendee, Pris Samutsarn.

"The world has opened wider. (It) enables us to get to know other people, know more friends and realise that cosplay or comic-related animations don't only exist in Japan but that it's a worldwide (event)."

This year's event isn't also without a few star appearances.

To celebrate the seventy-fifth anniversary of Batman, there's an exhibition which includes a full-size Batmobile used in the 1989 Tim Burton movie.

Movie producer Michael Uslan is on hand, and he's very excited about the Dark Knight's upcoming appearance in 'Batman vs Superman', a movie by 'Man of Steel' director Zack Snyder.

"The great fan and the great director Zack Snyder who is bringing to us Batman VS Superman," he says.

"We have a chance to see different filmmaker visions and watch how they execute their visions knowing that it comes from the place of respect and love and passion for this character."

Among other highlights here, attendees can also sit on the 'Iron Throne' from TV fantasy show "Game of Thrones."

Several people are queuing to have their photo taken with the famed prop from the HBO series.

Bangkok Comic Con ran 4-6 July at the Royal Paragon Hall in Bangkok.
