People in the Northern Plains already are enduring blowing snow and single-digit temperatures, but the real deep freeze is still approaching.

Thursday's projected high in western North Dakota is minus 6 degrees, and by Saturday, minus 10.

The National Weather Service is predicting a foot or more of snow in some areas of the Upper Midwest, with freezing rain possible for parts of the Great Lakes.

And to the south, Oklahoma and Arkansas faced a possible ice storm this evening.
