Amazon is expanding the ways you can see their video content. The company unveiled a new video streaming player, similar to Roku or Apple TV.
Amazon is hoping the new device will be as successful at its Kindle in generating return customers who want to buy their entertainment content.
Amazon has introduced its Amazon Fire TV, a new video streaming device that lets users watch Amazon prime content as well as shows and movies from partner services like Netflix, Hulu Plus, YouTube and more.
The new hardware could help Amazon catch up with Netflix, which currently has about 30 percent of the video streaming audience, compared with Amazon’s two percent.
The device will compete with the likes of Roku’s streaming players, apple TV and Google’s Chromecast.
Like Amazon’s popular Kindle reading tablets, the company hopes its devices will breed return customers.
Amazon is also delving deeper into gaming with the introduction of a new 40 dollar gaming controller.
The new Amazon Fire TV costs 99 dollars and will start shipping as of this week, adding to more things you can buy on Amazon.
Amazon Fire TV will also be adding streaming music services like Pandora and iHeartRadio in the coming months.
