2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship Begins

The 2014 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships got underway on Thursday in Sweden.

Team USA had their first game in the tournament on Thursday.

The Americans defeated the team of the Czech Republic by a score to 5-1.

The United States is hoping to repeat their gold-medal winning performance from 2013.

They'll play next against Slovakia on Saturday, December 28th.

Some other results from games on Thursday include: Sweden beat Switzerland 5 to 3, Russia crushed Norway with a score of 11 to nothing, and Canada skated past Germany 7 to 2.
