Every Wednesday, News 4 This Morning takes a look at the lighter stories from our show that viewers and readers are talking about on our webchannel and related social media.

From Friday August 2nd, through Sunday, a tax-free weekend took place in Alabama for shoppers. The discount mainly applied to school supplies—which ranged from clothes to computers. A tax-free holiday also took place over the weekend in Florida. Lori Burns told us how she took advantage of the holiday on the Morning Facebook page. Burns said that she purchased a “Samsung ATIV smart PC at Office Depot for 449.00 and Samsung Galaxy Note for 339.00. Both items because PCS is asking students to bring technology to school.”

Surge was a citrus soda from the Coca-Cola that was released in the 1990s. Marketed to compete against Mountain Dew, it was nonetheless discontinued after a few years. Many viewers of News 4 have memories of the beverage and left comments on our Facebook page. Liza Davis say she wishes they would bring it back, adding, “I miss this drink. I would beg my parents for one everyday.” David McCue commented, I remember they gave out a truckload of it to students at Rehobeth for marketing. I'm sure our teachers loved that.” Amanda hall proclaims that she “loved it!!!! used to drink a 6 pack in 4 days. surprised I still have all my teeth. Lol.”

An answer on Jeopardy’s Kid Week caused a controversy when a spelling error caused answer to be judged as incorrect. The producers of the popular syndicated game show stood by their judgment. On the Morning Facebook page, viewers reacted to the story. Anne Jernigan said that, “He should get it. Nobody spells right and they don't make thee adults spell right.” Chrystal Hood added, “Why the heck should spelling count considering half the country can't spell. have you read any text messages?!”

On Monday, we showed you some photographs taken from Pike County over the past weekend. These photographs showed a bird sitting on a small branch in front of a blanket of heavy fog. Jeannette Daughtry commented on the story, saying, “This is the kind of bird that has been flying into our house window for 6 weeks. bang, bang and bang all day long.He has stopped for now. He saw his self in window. Tinfoil and rubber snake no good. LOL”

Bronies, adult fans of the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, gathered in Germany over the past weekend for the Galacon 2013 convention. Fans could meet talent from the show, play games with fellow fans, purchase merchandise and more. Attendees @RomanTimberwolf, @The_NTL & Petri Haikonen shared their pictures of the event with us to share with you. The article on GalaCon also received a number of retweets and favorites on Twitter, and was linked by fansites.
