It was a wrestling event that involved a match that brought in numerous wrestlers at once—the Royal Rumble!

The Royal Rumble began as an event by the then-World Wrestling Federation on January 24th, 1988. After some regular matches, the Rumble began with two wrestlers in the ring. After a period of two minutes, a third would come in, with another wrestler added every two minutes until the entire roster made an appearance.

The first Rumble, which aired on the USA Network, involved 20 wrestlers. To eliminate a competitor, wrestlers had to get their opponent out of the ring, over the top rope.

The 1988 Royal Rumble would be won by “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan. Future Royal Rumbles involved 30 wrestlers.
