The first spinoff of the hit sitcom Happy Days would also prove to be a hit of its own.

Laverne & Shirley debuted on ABC on January 27th, 1976. It was the first of many spinoffs from Happy Days, a comedy series set in the 1950s. This spinoff followed the lives of Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney who worked the Shotz Bottling Company in Milwaukee.

The series starred Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams, and would become known for its slapstick. Supporting characters Lenny and Squiggy would also become popular in the show.

Later on the setting of the series changed from Milwaukee to California. In the final season of the show, Cindy Williams left the cast, but the show would continue on that season until finally coming to an end in 1983.

The series had eight seasons overall, with seven out of the eight shows available on DVD as of the end of January 2014.
