The price of sending a postcard is expected to go up by a cent and a stamp by three cents.
The hike will raise 2 billion dollars for the cash-strapped Postal Service. The postal Service must first get approval of its regulatory panel before the increase can take place.
Local residents here in Dothan don’t seem to mind.
"I don't see how they can avoid it and it’s well worth it. Those of us who don't email depend on it.
It may change some things but it won’t change the amount of letters I have to send,” said Mel Douglas.
"You have business down here, it's real good to have it here. We always come up with that extra money anyways so we need it here," said Michael White.
So far the Postal Service has lost nearly 4 billion dollars in the current fiscal year, and lost 16 billion in 2012.
