OZARK -- Twenty-four members of the Boys & Girls Club of Ozark Southeast Alabama are gaining a whole new knowledge of Oceanography.
The club received one of 35 national grants to hold the Immersion Mentoring Program. Each Monday night for around an hour and a half,. they meet to learn a new lesson regarding such topics as the Titanic and the Gulf. They will continue the program for two years, taking a break in the summer.
On Monday, they learned about arctic mammals and even had the chance to carve their own mammal out of soap, using toothpicks and popsicle sticks.
The Immersion Mentoring Program offers a four to one ratio and have planned a number of field trips for the students.
