MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) -- A Cobb County teen has pleaded guilty in the shooting death of his 12-year-old brother.
District Attorney's spokeswoman Kim Isaza says 19-year-old Oscar Mondragon pleaded guilty Wednesday in Cobb County Superior Court in the June 2011 death of his younger brother, Javier.
Authorities say Mondragon was charged with involuntary manslaughter and violating the state's street gang terrorism and prevention act. The teen was sentenced to 10 years and must serve five of them behind bars.
Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Jesse Evans says Mondragon's family told investigators they believe the shooting was accidental.
Evans says it was illegal for Mondragon -- who was 16 at the time -- to handle a gun, and he was a documented gang member.
