It was a day of ‘Big Fun’ for 35 Midland City School students, who went through the unthinkable when a gunman boarded their school bus and took driver Charles Polland’s life January 29th.

It was a day of ‘Big Fun’ for 35 Midland City School students, who went through the unthinkable when a gunman boarded their school bus and took driver Charles Polland’s life January 29th.

The Child Advocacy Center’s Sherryl Walker said, “We are having a fun day at Big Fun for the children who were on the bus.”

An 18 month ‘Victims of Crime Grant’ is allowing therapeutic services to do groups with the children, individual therapy and therapy for their families.

That grant also brought therapy dogs, art work and games to the Dothan Big Fun center today.

Volunteers like Rayshon Kennedy say they're happy to help for the kids.

“At a young age like that, if something that bad happens, it's just unreal. I'm just here to help and make them feel as comfortable as possible.”

Walker says that comfort could also be coming to parents of victims this school year.

“The grant will allow us to provide training for the school personal and for the first responders. We'll be doing that when school starts.”
