Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer in court

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) - Former Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus
Pyle says charges he's facing in Florida, including failing to register as a sex offender, are a result of a "convoluted" series of mix-ups.

Pyle told jurors Thursday that he never meant to violate the state's sex offender registry law.

According to prosecutors, Pyle moved to Florida in 2007 and didn't register within 48 hours, as required.

The 61-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of lewd and lascivious assault in 1993.

Pyle is also accused of giving false information on a driver's license application.

The musician says he hasn't lived in Florida in years but drove down to reinstate his license after receiving a letter from the Department of Revenue. Pyle acknowledged using an old Florida address.
