Ala. senator delays her anti-smoking bill

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -

Democratic state Sen. Vivian Davis Figures of Mobile took the action Thursday after the Senate exempted bars, the bar sections of restaurants, and gambling halls from her proposed restrictions on
smoking in public places. Figures told the Senate that she didn't
want her bill to pass in that weakened form, and she got senators
to carry it over for possible consideration another day.

Figures got a similar bill passed by the Senate last year, but it died in the House.
