Fort Rucker’s Spartans have a new leader.
Lieutenant Colonel Todd Marshburn takes over command of the 1st battalion, 223d Aviation Regiment. The outgoing leader, Lieutenant Colonel Demetrios Nicholson isn’t going far.
He will be the new Deputy Chief of Staff at Fort Rucker.
The battalion’s mission is flight instruction and operations.
It also includes FLATIRON- the emergency air ambulance service that serves the south east.
Outgoing Commander Lt. Col. Demetrios J. Nicholson said, “You always just want your unit to succeed. It was a great leader before I took command and it will be afterwards.”
Incoming Commander Lt. Col. Todd Marshburn said, “Right now I am going to take it slow, see the things I need to know about. Take my time and get a sense of where the aviation branch is going. And we will make changes as we need to, Col. Nicholson did a fantastic job.”
The battalion’s partnering city is Daleville and they work closely with the chamber of commerce.
