(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Representative Martha Roby proudly announced the 2012 Military Academy Appointments. As a Member of Congress, Roby has the opportunity each year to nominate eligible students for consideration for appointment to the United States Air Force, Naval, Military, and Merchant Marine Academies.
“I congratulate these students on successfully committing to a very rigorous application process and attaining such an admirable accomplishment. Attending a Military Service Academy is a high honor for our country’s most devoted students.
These students’ steadfast dedication to school and country is, without a doubt, a most commendable honor. I wish them much success in their academic and professional careers and thank them in advance for their service to our country,” said Roby.
Nominations for Military Academy Appointments are based on a "whole person" evaluation. Factors such as academic achievements, extra-curricular activities, leadership skills, physical aptitude, character and motivation are considered and compared with other applicants.
The following students became eligible for consideration for a Military Academy Appointment after receiving an official nomination from Rep. Roby earlier this year.
A Dothan native, Lawson Coleman Brakefield is the son of William Lacy and Jill Brakefield. He is currently enrolled at Houston Academy. Brakefield received an official appointment from the United States Naval Academy and another appointment from the United States Military Academy (West Point).
Also a Dothan native, Samuel Robert Dowd is the son of John and Donna Dowd. He is a 2011 graduate of Providence Christian School and is currently attending Auburn University. Dowd received an official appointment from the United States Military Academy (West Point).
A Prattville native, William Dakota Groff is the son of John and Patricia Groff. He is currently attending Prattville High School. Groff received an official appointment to the United States Air Force Academy.
