The Pentagon says civilian furloughs are back on the table for 2014.
The Department of Defense says it's hopeful it won't have to furlough employees but says it can't guarantee it won't happen.
The D.O.D. is looking to cut at least $52 billion next year.
In August, the Pentagon said as many as 6,300 civilian jobs would be cut if sequestration isn't averted by October 1.
A spokesperson for the department says the cuts will be felt more acutely in the coming year.
