FORT RUCKER, AL-- Steven Drown’s Diner stands on more than 17 years of service. “I have a couple of people that have been with me over 10 years.”

With strong military ties, serving a community centered around those that serve our country.

Kay Kirkland said, “We are known as the city that feeds Fort Rucker.”

But talks of cuts on Capitol Hill are heard all way to Daleville Avenue.

Steven Drown Jr. said, “I kind of knew what was coming down the pipeline so as sales came in, I set a little bit of money aside to hedge against the lose of sales. …I’ve already seen approximately 15 percent reduction in sales.”

Causing business owner like Steven to talk about cuts of their own.

Steven said, “We may have to go with our own furlough. So someone who normally works 6 days or 5 days a week we may have to say in order for us to keep operating we may have to cut back a day or so so that everybody takes an effect as opposed to just one person.”

The 11 days of furlough are not set to begin until July. And since the talk of cutting flight hours and pilots seems to have been avoided, people like Kay and Steven are hopeful this too can be offset.

Kay Kirkland, Executive Director Daleville Area Chamber of Commerce said, “It is possible that this will all be ok. And we are going to stay positive and hope that the outcome wont be dramatic.”

Fort Rucker did say in their press release that since the beginning of the budget concerns everything has been very fluid so changes are to be expected.

Fort Rucker also said in a press release that the commissary will be closed on Monday and Tuesday during the furlough period. There is also talks of reducing availability at the Faulkner and Newton gates.
