Funding Shortfall Delays Alabama National Guard Weekend Driils

Weekend drills for thousands of Alabama National Guard Soldiers have been delayed and could ultimately be cancelled.

The Army National Guard is facing an end-of-fiscal-year shortage of about $101 million. They're waiting on Congress to shift funds from one account to another to cover the shortfall.

The Guard may be forced to move training back to next fiscal year that starts on October 1st.

If September drills are cancelled entirely, members could be called on to serve two weekends in October.

The Air National Guard isn't affected by the shortfall.
