Blue Angels Grounded Due to Budget Cuts

PENSACOLA, FL - The Navy's legendary Blue Angels are being grounded.

The Blue Angels had what could be their last practice of the year Thursday at Pensacola's Naval Air Station.

The daredevils are feeling the pinch of sequestration, mandatory federal budget cuts that took effect nearly a month ago.

Starting next Monday, the Blue Angels will be grounded.

They've been performing since 1946 to help the Navy with recruiting.

Now, the Navy must cut $4,000. Cancelling the Blue Angels regular season would save an estimated $20 million.

The Navy isn't alone. The Air Force puts on a similar show with the Thunderbirds. Sequestration has forced the Air Force to cancel the remaining 20 shows in this year's season.
