Search is Underway for Missing Soldiers in Afghanistan

An intense search is underway for two members of the navy missing in Afghanistan.

They disappeared Friday while traveling through an area ripe with Taliban forces.

Taliban representatives told CBS News they've been taken to a secure location.

The US military confirms two navy service members left their base in Kabul Friday, then disappeared in the Logar province, a region crawling with Taliban fighters.

A local Afghan chief said Taliban fighters tried to stop the sailor's vehicle, but when it kept going, insurgents opened fire and the troops shot back.

The only US soldier believed to be held by the Taliban is Bowe Bergdahl from Idaho.

He disappeared in June 2009, and has only reappeared on videos posted by the Taliban.

While troops search for the servicemen, others continue to come under attack.

Although troops survived this roadside bomb attack with only minor injuries, the US military says five American soldiers have been killed in separate bomb attacks Saturday.

Last month was the deadliest for US forces in Afghanistan since the war began.

Now American troops can only hope their two missing colleagues can be found alive.
