St. Pete soldier dies in Afghanistan

ST.PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The military says a soldier from Florida was killed when his unit came under fire in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Tuesday that 40-year-old Spc. David W. Thomas died Sunday in Konar. Thirty-one year-old Staff Sgt. Eric B. Shaw, of Exeter, Maine, also died in the attack.

They were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Ky.
