Pakistan army: 1.3 million fled fighting in NW

MARDAN, Pakistan (AP) - Pakistan's army estimates that 1.3 million people have fled fighting in the country's northwest since August.

Brig. Aamer Raza Qureshi released the number at a news conference Tuesday.

The army officer gave few details. However, he said the figure included those who fled the ongoing offensive in the Swat Valley as
well as an operation in the Bajur border region last year. The
Bajur offensive began in August.
