Army Lieutenant Pleads Guilty to Enticing a Child

COLUMBIA, Ga. (AP) - An Army lieutenant colonel has pleaded guilty to enticing a child for indecent purposes.

Muscogee County Superior Court Chief Judge John Allen sentenced 44-year-old Anthony Berry to two years in prison on the charges. Assistant District Attorney Brad Bickerstaff says Berry originally faced counts of child molestation and solicitation of sodomy which were dropped when Berry pleaded guilty.

Authorities say Berry first approached a 14-year-old girl at a birthday party during summer 2009. He persuaded her to go with him to a lake, where he tried to have her perform a sex act, but was unsuccessful. Authorities say he began sending the girl text messages, which her mother found. Police learned about the allegations Sept. 23.
