Ex-tabloid editor faces phone hacking charges

Ex-News of the World editor and News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks says she and her husband will face charges over Britain's tabloid phone hacking scandal.

Brooks, 43, said Tuesday in a statement that she will be prosecuted over allegations of obstruction of justice.

Her husband Charlie Brooks will also face similar charges, related to an alleged attempt to hide evidence related to hacking.

The charges are the first to be laid since police launched a new inquiry into phone hacking in Jan. 2011.
