Wall Street: Airlines Raising Ticket Prices

AP

Investors withdrew $85 billion from stock mutual funds last year. It's the fifth year in a row they withdrew more cash from stock funds than they put in. Bond funds attracted new cash, as they have since the financial crisis in 2008. Last year, investors deposited $116 billion into bond funds.

U.S. airlines are ringing in the new year with higher ticket prices. Last week Delta Airlines raised prices on roundtrip international flights by $20. Most major carriers rushed to match that fare hike.

On wall street, investors will be focused once again on Europe and its escalating debt crisis. Ahead of the long holiday weekend the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell about 49 points. The Nasdaq gave back 14.

Expect reports this week on inflation, home construction and home sales for December.
