Officials have lowered the death toll in Friday's twin terror attacks in Norway to 76. In court today, the suspect pleaded not guilty, but admitted to carrying out the attacks and said there are others out there like him.
A black police vehicle carrying Anders Breivik drove away from an Oslo courthouse following a closed court appearance.
Officials say the suspect in the worst peacetime attack in Norway confessed to the attacks saying they were necessary.
A court official said, “The accused says he needed to do this to save Europe from cultural Marxism.”
Breivik is accused of a twin terror attack - setting off a car bomb near the prime minister's office then - going to a remote island to attack young people at a political retreat. .. Many the children of liberal party members.
Officials say at the hearing the 32 year old claimed there are two more cells in his organization...so the judge ruled that Breivitz be held in complete isolation while police investigate the claims.
Norweigan defense experts say it could be months for police to complete their investigation. While he is being detained, prosecutors have asked the court to bar Breivi from making statements to anyone except his lawyer and court officials.
Before the hearing, Norway paused for a moment of silence - in memory of the shocking murders.
During the hearing Breivik said the goal was not to kill as many people as possible. It was to send a clear signal about his anti-Muslim views .
Oslo resident Nina Knudsen said, “I feel that he probably wants to be heard and I don't think he deserves that.”
And a judge agreed, denying Breivik's request for an open hearing today, where he planned to use the platform to spread his beliefs.
Breivik will be held for at least eight weeks, half of that in complete isolation.
