Taiwanese Vessel Believed Hijacked Off Madagascar

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) -The force said in a statement Thursday that FV Shiuh Fu No. 1 was attacked by a skiff on Dec. 25, while operating about 120 nautical miles off the northeastern tip of Madagascar.

All communication has been lost with the Taiwanese vessel, and
force said there were strong indications that it may have been
seized with its 26 crew members.

Pirates tried to capture two ships in separate attacks in the
Mozambique Channel over the Christmas weekend. It was the farthest
south they have ever attempted a hijacking.

Pirates are currently holding 26 vessels and 613 hostages off
the coast of Somalia.
