A spell of snow swept across some parts of central and southwest China during the QingMing Festival which began Thursday.

Hezhang County in southwest China's Guizhou Province experienced a round of snowstorm Friday and Saturday, seriously affecting local crops.

The unexpected snowfall in the season of spring covered large areas of local farmland, with the snowfall being 10 centimeters deep in some areas in Hezhang County.

The snow which lasted for two days was believed to have effectively relieved the damage to crops brought by drought, while the low temperature caused by the snowfall froze some crops.

A round of snow also pelted Badong County in central China's Hubei Province during the three-day Qingming Festival which started on Thursday.

Affected by the cold air moving from north and northwest China, the snow brought down the temperature to 2.5 minus degrees Celsius in Badong County.

The crops in Badong County were blanketed in thick snow Saturday, and vegetables might suffer from the cold damage.

A round of snow shower hit parts of southwest China's Yunnan Province, accompanied with a sharp drop in temperature Saturday.

The temperature in Zhaotong, Yunnan Province dropped to 1.1 degrees Celsius on Saturday morning when light snow stated to drizzle.

The city of Qujing, also in Yunnan, experienced a temperature drop by 15 degrees Celsius on Saturday.

The local crops did not suffer from any damage owing to the short duration of low temperature in Yunnan.

The temperature in the province is expected to go up again Sunday.
