LIMA, Peru (AP) -- Peruvian security forces are searching for two police officers who disappeared during a jungle search for 36 hostages.

The kidnapped construction workers were freed on Saturday by Shining Path rebels who had abducted the men from a town near the country's main natural gas fields.

Defense Minister Alberto Otarola said that more troops were sent to the area to search for the two missing police officers, and also pursue the rebels.

Peruvian officials have said that two soldiers and two police officers were killed in the search operation, and that 10 other soldiers were injured.
